Dancing on the Ceiling eAt thend it suddenly made me feel that what I ve read was a real story that perhaps Lorna and Paul were real The thought is making my heart fulfilled I really can t help but think that this story was real and what I read was a love story from the past and not a fictional love story set in the pastReading this book I can t also help but think about the people of my own country back at the time when we were still a colony of America Japan or Spain It made me think and imagine our people on their shoes And how a story like theirs can just be The Wee Free Men (Discworld, easilyrased as the time passed by like they never xisted at all and no one will remember like their stories never happened at all I ve watched a couple of movies about the lives of my country s national heroes and also historical dramas from other countries One of them was our national hero Dr Jose Rizal s story plus we also studied it in our class which is mainly about his works and life while he was in Dapitan and he met Josephine Bracken Of course Josephine was not the only woman in Dr Jose Rizal s life There were And some of the other girls stories with Jose Rizal were ven remarkable than what he and Josephine had if only people would know And there is also this Kdrama that is now permanently tattooed in my heart where the king fell in love with a court lady but he married other women in the All Quiet on the Western Front end one is his niece while the other is his half sisterven though he doesn t really want to while the court lady also married another man who is the king s pure brother but they only did that to help the court lady get out of the palace But despite of this they still both loved História do Rei Transparente each other until the verynd until one of them died and they missed the chance to tell Best Mechanic Ever each other how much they still and truly lovedach other okay Dinosaur Dinners enough I want to cry again My point is that there were stories like this happened in the past that just faded like it didn t happen at all They have so much impact they were remarkable stories but timerased them Showing the world no trace like it never happened at all Lorna and Paul and the other prisoners of war and local Scot girls might not have a high status in their country just like them or movie liketeleserye like stories but they also had a love story Their own uniue real love stories Love stories that were worth sharing And this book Wait For Me by Caroline Leech Lorna Anderson and Paul Vogel s story speaks for all of them For the prisoners of war and local girls they fell in love with For all the forgotten stories in the past Aside from love family and friendship also takes a huge part in this book There was a story of friendship between Lorna and her best friend Iris who irritated me a lot that shows that best friends are best friends literally no matter what How forgiveness was really important And family was not just based on the blood that was running in your veins It was based on how you connect trust support and love In His Blood each other Their society s structure was also a really realistic one It shows how people on the church like in this case the pastor and his wife dictate almostverything in their society Nobody officially said that they should be the leaders but just because they came from the church people follow them like Desert Kings (Deathlands, everything in their lives including their beliefs should depend on them I don t care if you ll fight me with this but people on the church were not always right They were also people just like us who made mistakes Some of them were also judgmental just like us They wereven sometimes worse And that s what was showed in this book I like it because that was just realistic perfectly portrayed and gives us a glimpse of their society s past than may An Officer and a Spy even occurring in some other parts of this world until now you must know that I will come back to you If you ll wait for me Wait For Me is such a lovely story of love friendship and family It has a really melancholy mood but also definitely heartwarming and inspiring read It was a fictional work that was written in a way that will make its reader feel like it was real And hope that it was all real Thank you so much HarperCollins International for providing me anARC in Exposed (Annika Bengtzon, exchange of an honest review Thelectronic ARC received by any means didn t affect nor influence my review The uotations above will be checked once I got my own finished copy Review I am a huge fan of World War II books so I was xcited to see a new YA based one coming outLorna lives on a farm in Scotland in 1945 with her father and a farm helper Nellie while her two brothers are fighting in the war she goes are fighting in the war She goes school and helps out with chores When Paul a German prisoner of war is assigned to work at the family farm Lorna finds it hard to accept his presence As time goes on and she learns about Paul though she finds it hard to stay away If she doesn t though she could lose so muchI literally sat down with this book and finished it in a day I was so ngrossed in the story and the characters I couldn t put it down I loved Lorna so much She definitely had some spunk to her Paul was a German soldier so it was hard to be sympathetic to him but I think the author did try and make it so he was than that and Naked explain some things on hisnd Together they were very sweet and I liked their romanceThere were a lot of great secondary characters which included her father as well as Nellie and their housekeeper They #were such a great house full of people that were all s # such a great house full of people that were all s of Shadow Scale (Seraphina, each other Her best friend Iris was a harder nut to crack I wasn t sure how I felt about her and their friendship Somehow though that made me feel it be realI do wish there wasxplored with the Scotland setting Also as much as I loved it I feel it could have all been xplored a bit f that makes sense Still I thought it was a great story to get lost in for a day I would recommend if you like WWII stories with a strong romantic takeThis review was originally posted on Rebel Mommy Book Blog Bleeeech If I had to describe this book in one word I would probably choose corny Don t pick this up if you re looking for a moving historical fiction about finding love amidst the horrors of World War 2 Pick it up if you want to read a cheeseball teenage romance with only occasional mentions of those minor inconveniences during the war I read World War 2 historical fiction because I like reading about strong people who had to do hard things to survive during one of the most horrifying times in modern history This book only casually mentioned those horrible things as devices to keep the romance going The Blitz is mentioned once and only because the German
Love Interest Is Teaching interest is teaching main character the German words for thunder and lightning which is Blitzen I think the word Nazi is used like once I think that only one character from the main character s Scottish village is killed and he s a character that we never ven meet Food rationing is mentioned but they always seem to have plenty of good food to Nerds eat It just felt like World War 2 was nothing than a backdrop to the romance The main character is shallow petty and obnoxious She and her best friend are constantly bickering about nothing usually instigated by the main character ragging on the best friend s boyfriend She makes snap judgements aboutveryone And then she flip flops about those judgements When the German love interest gets to her farm she alternates between thinking he s nothing than a When Paul Vogel a German prisoner of war is assigned as the new farmhand Lorna is appalled How can she possibly work alongside the nemy when her own brothers are risking their lives for their countryBut as Lorna reluctantly spends time with Paul she feels herself changing The she learns about him from his time in the war to ,
This was a beautiful yet at times heart wrenching book I honestly just laid in bed holding this book to my chest crying when I finished it This book was beautiful and had a very powerful message The message woven throughout this novel at least what I personally thought it as was forgiveness and not judging people based on their outward appearance or their nationality This spoke volumes to me I am a descendant of a Dutch resistant worker I had distant uncles who died in concentration camps I have read countless books on WW2 and the Holocaust I have heard story after story of Nazis and their oppression Yet as awful as the Nazis were I understand that there still were those good Germans out there There were this German soldiers who were forced into the war without their approval Not all were mini Hitler s like we all think German soldiers during WW2 to be Paul the lovable broke cinnamon roll Paul was a character whom I instantly fell in love with He was a broken German soldier who was hurt badly and had some physical handicaps due to that but he didn t let that stop him His character was still good and he did not allow what people say get to him My heart broke for this poor man and I wanted to just hug him so badly many times throughout this book Paul s character also wove his way into my heart because I have a heart for broken soldiers no matter what nationality they are My heart always breaks for them I always want to hug and pray for them I always want to just reassure them that God loves them and has their backs Lorna I also loved her character Her motions towards Paul were real and I felt like her development really was done well I loved seeing her Bark evolve into the person we saw at thend of the book I love how she stood up to all the hypocrites in her town and how she stood up for Paul On Such a Full Sea even when that meant looking bad towards others She was amazing All the other characters who I was suppose to like were just as lovable and amazing as Paul and Lorna I want another book about Iris though I really want to know what happens with her If I never get one I guess I ll be okay but that would just be cool Again the storyline and messages was beautiful and it brought tears to myyes If y all have not read this yet I highly recommend doing so However there are a few content things like mild language and some mild sexual content not between Paul and Lorna but a side character If you want a in depth content warning You can PM me and I ll be willing to tell you P But we ll have tomorrow Yes we will have tomorrow Such simple words yes But they tore me apart on the insideI was transported to the past again and this time it was to Scotland while World War II was still happening At first I really thought that this might not be suitable for all readers because WWII reminds us of holocaust and holocaust is such a really sensitive issue that might trigger something on the readers But I assure you it wasn t Well as far as I m concerned because what happened in the war itself is another story Although it was set at the time of WWII there weren t war scenes at all or any violence if that s what also you are Hello, Hippo! Goodbye, Bird! expecting It isn t a story of WWII itself it is a story of loved ones left back home by the brothers sons or husbands who were forced to fight a war they never wanted to be part of This is not a story about the big WWII This is a story of small lives caught between the war and its bigffects on these small lives It was told on third person s point of view It was set on Aberlady East Lothian Scotland on the year 1945 The pace was stead fast And the mood this book possesses right from the very start was melancholy I am not proud that my country killed many of your people though please remember your country has killed many Germans too But that is war is about We do not like it but we must all live with it until it is Cannibal ended Lorna Anderson was a local Scot girl who was also a daughter of a farmer Lorna grew up being the only girl and the youngest in the family So she was really closed to her older brothers That s why she resented the fact that both of his brothers were needed in the war both serving to fight for their country She was kind hearted forgiving knows how to stood for herself and close toveryone in their house Paul Vogel was a German prisoner of war Just like Lorna s brothers and most of the soldiers fought in this bloody war Paul was just also forced to do so He was not really an nemy but the country where he came from was Paul was a picture of kindness respect and gentlemanliness He was a man really beautifully flawed on the inside and out He was just so kind and humble He s so pure Paul Vogel had been through a lot And yes he deserves Lorna and he deserves all the best in this worldEvery farmer back in those days can reuest Farm Ladies andor farmhands to help them
With Their Farms And In their farms And in the POWs were the people being sent by their officials to nearby farms to serve as farmhands Lorna s father reuested for a farmhand that will help him with his And Paul Vogel was the one who was sent to themThe war left Lorna with a very bad impression for Germans just like veryone Man, Son of Man else in their country that s why she really didn t liked Paul from the start And she doesn t want him to be there He reminded her of the war that kept her brothers away from her And it made her feel bad to let a German akanemy in their house I honestly thought that this will be a hate to love trope but it wasn t There was no hate occurred between the two at all Only dislike from the part of LornaIt wasn t really the painful book I was Alter Ego expecting that will make me bawl myyes out I would rather call this book a melancholic book than a painful book But it also made me feel giddy swooning and sometimes irritated because of some certain charactersWhat I saw in this book and what this book will always remind me of was purity While I am currently typing this and thinking about Paul and Lorna again makes me teary yed Isn t it lovely to witness a love story so pure that is what your heart has been always longing for In this generation where purity and true love seems like already very hard to find reading such story will fill the spaces in your heart that s been mpty for a long time Wait For Me just really made me feel sad most of the time Lorna and Paul s situation was just very hard The conflict of loving an Uncommon Wisdom enemy just because he came from the country that killed many of your countrymen was clearly felt When people were treating you as a traitor just because you loved someone they thought you shouldn tven be friends with I didn t just see I felt how hard it was to fall for the Unseen City enemyIt wasn t just their love story that made me sad It was also the people surrounding them and how judgmental they were No they were actually making me mad Nosy judgmental people reallyxisted since who knows how long time ago The war left a permanent damage on Paul not just on the inside but out His half
was like it was like literally gone and people who saw him just feared him pitied him and judged him Only Lorna s family Art embraced him and saw him for what he truly was with or without those scars the bloody war permanently carved into his being POWs falling in love with the local girls did actually happened and some of them really did get married in real life Miss Caroline Leech stated that on the Author s Note After reading that Author s Note. The perfect blend of sweet romance and historical flavor Wait for Me from debut author Caroline Leech brings a fresh new voice to a much loved genreIt’s 1945 and Lorna Anderson’s life on her father’s farm in Scotland consists ofndless chores and rationing knitting Red Cross scarves and praying for an Allied victory So. Irty German and thinking he s just a beautiful misunderstood boy I wanted to throttle her for the God Is in the Crowd entire book The German himself isn t bad Just kind of blah The dialogue is a little stiff and I can t tell if its because the author was trying to make it actually sound like the 1940s Thend of the book was cheesy and blech Everything was tied up in a nice little bow with little to no fallout for the main character after A MAJOR WAR TAKING PLACE ON THE CONTINENT SHE LIVED ON Moral of the story this book is all fluff and no substance A gripping romantic tale set in 1945 Scotland Leech s well researched historical YA novel Attracting Songbirds to Your Backyard explores a forbidden love affair between Lorna Anderson a plucky 17 year old farm girl and Paul Vogel a German prisoner of war Written in lyrical fluid prose Leech captures the time period in amazing detail with sharp dialogue clever characterization and delicious slow burning romance Highly andnthusiastically recommended Reviewed on 5171 Miles Book BlogYou all know by now how I love World War II novels The Matriarchs (The Family especially historical romance When I saw Wait for Me on Instagram a few months ago I knew I had to give it a try I had never before read a YA historical romance so I wasn t uite sure what toxpect I mostly hoped it would not be a cheesy rendition of a love storyLorna Anderson is a young Scottish girl who helps with a variety of things on her father s farm after her brothers leave for the war When a previously injured German prisoner of war is assigned to work on their farm Lorna is disgusted How is she Notes for the Everlost expected to work alongside thenemy her brothers are fighting As Lorna reluctantly begins working with Paul she comes to see him as a human instead of an When I Moan (Vassi and Seri 1: Russian Stepbrother Romance) enemyWhile this book did not have a lot of the grittiness of the WWII novels I m used to it still gave an accurate depiction of war affectingvery aspect of people s way of life The food and clothing rations would be a challenge for our spoiled society of today which allows readers to No Biggy! experience some of the difficulty of the unfamiliar situations Caroline Leech s strongest attribute in this story is showing readers the humanity in war Just because someone was from Germanyven fighting for Germany did not mean they believed in the cause they were fighting for Sometimes the Crush It! enemy s actions are based solely upon survival In Paul s case he was simply another man fighting for his life When people abandon their humanity to be cruel to the other side they show that hate is the truenemy in the war and worldWait for Me would be a great introduction to the genre of historical romance for young readers It is a clean novel an Attracting Birds to Your Backyard easy read and allows readers toxperience some of the conflicting feelings many would have felt during wartime without overwhelming with too much of the gore and Deep Listening evil of theraWhile the story was not uite as polished as I would hope for it was still a solid and Bird-by-Bird Gardening endearing novel worth reading I would give this book 35 stars for thexecution leaning towards 4 stars for the message the story conveyed Overall it was an The Works of Saint Augustine enjoyable read luckily not cheesy at all I would recommend to lovers of YA and historical fiction Loved this book I only read contemporary some of the time but I was intrigued because of thera it was set in The characters all had their flaws and their uniueness and Paul after Unbuttoning the CEO (The Suits Undone everything he has been through is such a sweetheart These people were just so brave to live during this time whileveryone today is just worried about a selfie and I loved the history and My Teacher Is a Robot everythinglse within these pages Full review on my blog Abandoning ship at 20%How just how does a novel set in WWII with a German soldier straight up ignores the bloody Holocaust and all the lives lost and turns into this generic love story War is a brutal complicated and dreadful thing for all sides involved but this is a great disservice to all those who have fought and shed blood I received an advance copy of this book for free Thanks to HarperCollins and Edelweiss Yes he was uite nice really For a German This was a YA historical romance story set during World War IILorna was an interesting character and she clearly worked hard on her father s farm and made sacrifices The storyline in this was about a German prisoner of war Paul being sent to work on Lorna s father s farm and Lorna slowly coming around to the idea after initially disliking it We got a slow attraction forming between Lorna and Paul but the pace was a bit too slow for me and there wasn t a whole lot romance really just a slow I m slowly getting to know you type of attraction instead We did also get storylines involving Lorna s brothers her best friend and theface was like

Is life back home in Germany the she sees the boy behind the soldier Soon Lorna is battling her own warring heart Loving Paul could mean losing her family and the life she’s always known With tensions rising all around them Lorna must decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice before thend of the war determines their fat.
